With the advances in technology and the every increasing need for improved engine efficiency, VAG have created a TSI engine (EA211 and EA211 EVO) that requires the camshaft timing to be set perfectly. This engine comes in 1.0, 1.2, 1.4 and 1.5 litre, 3 and 4 cylinder variations.

These engines can be found in cars produced from around 2012 to current day.

Traditionally, the engines would have the timing set using a pins and a specially made steel bar to lock things into place. This has now been superseded by an electronic tool, to ensure the camshaft timing has been set perfectly to allow for optimum fuel economy, performance and reliably.

This tool is a huge investment at a very significant cost (approx. £3k), but the special tool, VAS 611007, is worth its weight in gold. It allows us to carry out the timing belt replacement and set the camshaft timing to within fractions of a degree.
