This week we have had several DPF related faults.
This VW Passat was not regenerating the DPF due to a faulty circuit on one of the glow plugs.
Our initial assessment concluded that the glow plug itself was open circuit and required replacing.
When we attempted to remove, we found the nut section of the glow plug was floating around loose (bottom can be seen to be worn away on the nut), and the thread section was stuck in the cylinder head.
Using a specialist glow plug removal tool, we managed to extract the full glow plug with the aid of a slide hammer.
We suspect a previous attempt to replace had been carried out and was unsuccessful.
The thread was undamaged, hole cleaned and a new plug plug fitted using a ceramic grease to prevent seizure in the cylinder for any future repairs.
With a new glow plug fitted, the car was now fault free and a regeneration road test was carried out and successfully completed without being forced. ... See MoreSee Less

“VW/Audi group 3.0TDI coolant loss”
This coolant shut off valve is a common problem on these engines causing a coolant leak in the V of the engine. They are buried beneath a whole host of components. Intake manifold, EGR cooler and valve assembly with another plastic housing and an oil cooler in amongst it too.
On this particular Audi Q5, the oil cooler seals were also leaking, leaving a puddle of oily water mess in the engine to clear up before reassembling with new gaskets and seals and of course a new coolant shut off valve.
This is often misdiagnosed as the water pump leaking due to the engine valley drain hole being not far away from the pump.
Get in touch if you need assistance diagnosing a loss of coolant and we will get you booked in. ... See MoreSee Less

📣 CALLING ALL SEAT OWNERS 📣
With the recent closure of our local Seat dealership in Yeovil, we have been getting a lot of enquiries from owners.
We are very pleased to say that we can undertake any non service plan maintenance and any other repairs that your Seat requires. We have many of the needed specialist tools, licensed Seat diagnostic equipment and a wealth of experience with the brand.
We have also been lucky enough to employ one of the Seat trained technicians, who joins the team starting next week.
So, if you require any repairs or service work and are looking for a trusted local specialist (as an alternative to driving to Poole!) we are here to help.
However, we would like to say that we are sadly unable to complete any warranty repairs or service plan maintenance work, as this will need to be done by the main dealer. ... See MoreSee Less

Crikey, when did Seat close?😞
I belive over the next couple of years seat will cease to exist soon as cupra will take over not from the yeovil branch but in general
Good idea mate thanks Dean and we'll done kind regards Tony cheers
Can you also do Cupra Ateca's then? Mine has the EA888 gen3 engine. Also, the main dealer will not clean the filter during a haldex service, which I believe is something worth doing?
Ben Loveridge here you go mate 👌🏼
Nice one Tom 👍👍

This VW 1.5 TSI was recently in for a replacement timing belt.
These engines are complex and the camshaft timing is critical to ensure correct operation and reliability. Without using the tool to set the timing can lead to poor fuel economy, hesitations/flat spots and also cause the ‘2 cylinder mode’ to not function and of course an engine warning light to come on. Not ideal!
To do this, we must use the VAS611007 timing tool, without the tool, it’s impossible to get to get the timing correct.
Of course we have this special equipment to allow us to do these engines correctly.
Does your usual garage have the special tools needed to carry out this essential step of the job? Make sure you ask the question before letting them do the job. If they don’t, find a specialist like us that does. ✅ ... See MoreSee Less

We often post pictures and posts about VW’s and Audi’s, but for some reason the Seat’s and Skoda’s rarely get a look in.
That being said, it doesn’t mean we don’t work on them. In fact we look after loads and loads!
If you’re looking for a garage that knows the VW group cars inside out to look after your Seat or Skoda then don’t hesitate to get in touch. ... See MoreSee Less

We are experts when it comes to German cars and AdBlue faults. But sometimes we get presented with issues that we just don’t expect.
However, during our investigation process, one of the things we check is the quality of the AdBlue.
This Audi Q3 came in with AdBlue pump faults and when we checked the system we found that someone had previously filled the system with what appeared to be screen wash!
This causes many issues including pump failure.
The fix for this car was a replacement AdBlue
tank and pump, replacement lines (a previous repairer had caused damage) and cleaning of the AdBlue injector.
Once all the necessary repairs and system resets were carried out with OEM diagnostic equipment, a thorough road test was carried out ensuring all parts of the system were functioning as expected.
Screen wash is not AdBlue, despite the name, it is actually a clear fluid. ... See MoreSee Less

This T6 is getting a nice fresh engine after finding excessive wear in the crankshaft bearings.
Loads of parts to remove and swap over. We will also be replacing the EGR valve and cooler whilst apart to prevent future issues, along with a new clutch and flywheel.
If you have a VW Transporter and want it looked after by people that know them inside out, then give us a shout, it’s what we do! ... See MoreSee Less

This Audi A4 TFSi came in for a replacement clutch and service.
With the gearbox removed it was found to have a leaking driveshaft oil seal that is fitted on the inside of the gearbox. We removed the differential unit and found that the bearings were badly worn.
The gearbox was repaired and refitted and is now driving and working as expected.
We also carried out a service. ... See MoreSee Less

This 2016 Mercedes GLA200d was in with diesel particulate filter problems. After carrying out the initial assessment, it became clear that the engine wasn’t running as well as it should be causing excessive soot to enter the intake and exhaust systems causing the filter to block.
In depth testing proved that both the low and high pressure EGR valves were not fully closing.
These were replaced, along with the partially blocked EGR coolers, and all the necessary components were adapted to the engine ecu using Mercedes Xentry diagnostic machine.
An extended road test, including regeneration of the filter and all tests now passed and the car is ready to go back to the owner. ... See MoreSee Less

This 2017 VW Tiguan came in with some odd noises, engine management light and took longer than normal for the engine to start with the engine management light on also.
Initial investigation proved that we had no signal from the crankshaft position sensor and the noises were coming from the area between the engine and gearbox area.
After gaining authority to remove gearbox to investigate further, we found the dual mass flywheel had failed catastrophically with bits of broken metal damaging the crankshaft sensor, the pickup ring and also the DSG clutch pack.
New parts were fitted, the necessary adaptation of the new clutch pack was carried out along with a good road test and everything is back to normal. ... See MoreSee Less
